Gavin Baskerville
-As Seen On TV
Put simply, I'm a TV Freak. I studied it at University, I've written
for it and I can probably tell you the exact address of where
Brandon and Brenda Walsh lived in Beverly Hills 90210. So when I
heard that Moosehead Award recipient Gavin Baskerville was
presenting a show dedicated to my favourite love of all (sorry DVDs,
you just missed out) then I just had to be involved.
Gavin moved from Perth to Melbourne in 2000 and this is his fourth
Melbourne International Comedy Festival show. The difference with
this one is that Gavin has also worked in television for some time
and therefore is not only familiar with his subject, but shares a
great affinity for it. As a result, As seen on TV is a comedy show
like no other. In fact I can honestly say that I have never been to
one as educational before. With a format that resembles an amusing
lecture, Gavin takes us through interesting quirks of television
like ratings, advertisements and promos. Using his trusty companion
Stevie the TV, Baskerville combines stand-up with clips, mock-ups
and video footage all in keeping the show moving and well paced.
While not for everyone, As Seen On TV is insightful and conceptually
different from most other festival shows. So if you too are a fan of
the box that 99% of all households have, then As Seen On TV could be
the show for you. Either way, I guarantee that by the end you'll
have some interesting facts to share with anyone you can pin down.
Oh and by the way, the Walshes lived at ......
